The VP, Operations Controller manages the activity of multiple accounting functions in the Support Center and communities including, but not limited to, Community Accounting, Billing, Collections and Business Office Services.

 Community Accounting:

  • Lead and participate in project teams for community acquisitions and dispositions, systems enhancements, new process implementation, etc.
  • Responsible for monthly ledger activity and balance sheet reconciliations for 200+ communities.
  • Coordinate month end close process for the entire Company.
  • Communicate detailed financial results to operations and senior management.
  • Assist in preparing the corporate budget.
  • Provide interim and year end external audit assistance.



  • Oversight of monthly billing and cash application activity for 200+ communities.
  • Ensure appropriate reporting on billing exceptions and AR agings to allow operations to focus on areas of concern.
  • Oversight of billing processes and internal controls, including ownership of proprietary systems such as Atria Resident Management.



  • Oversight of collection efforts for past due accounts.
  • Summarize and report on collection efforts and progress to Operations and Senior Management.
  • Review and approve write offs of uncollectible resident balances.

Business Office Services:

  • Oversight of the team of Business Office Specialists that are located throughout North America.
  • Ensure Business Office at communities are operated in accordance with Atria standards.
  • Ensure adequate Business Office coverage for vacancies and training of new Community Business Directors.


  • Responsible for the interviewing, hiring, training, developing, and evaluation of staff in accordance with Company guidelines.
  • Identify and implement revenue and costs savings opportunities.
  • Assess and enhance processes for efficiency and adequate internal controls.
  • Apply relevant technical accounting guidance.
  • Review, document, and enforce policies.
  • May perform other duties or complete additional special projects as needed and/or assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is required.
  • MBA certification or CPA license is preferred.
  • Public accounting as well as corporate experience is preferred.
  • Ten (10) or more years of professional experience in the accounting field.
  • Proven people management skills.
  • Understanding of internal controls and experience in application.
  • Proven experience in process streamlining and improvement.
  • Understanding of how detailed systems populate accounting records and financial reports.
  • Strong project management skills, including thorough research and an analytical review of options.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications such as Excel and Word.
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Analytical skills at both the detail and higher levels.
  • Leadership and relationship building skills. It is critical that this position be able to build relationships both within the Support Center in Louisville as well as with field personnel.
