Responsibilities

Responsibilities will vary based on the department:

 

Community Accounting:

  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepare and assist with balance sheet reconciliations and related analysis
  • Assist with month end close process and related account review
  • Assist with unclaimed property quarterly reporting
  • Support accounting staff and managers in the completion of audit requests
  • Complete special projects as assigned

Corporate/Payroll Accounting:

  • Assist with the completion of balance sheet reconciliations and related analysis for corporate overhead ledgers
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for employee benefits, property taxes, joint ventures, and overhead allocations
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Complete requests for property tax payments and prepare personal property tax returns
  • Support accounting staff and managers in the completion of audit requests
  • Complete special projects as assigned

Tax:

  • Assist in the preparateion and filing of Federal, State and Local tax returns
  • Support Tax accountants in the research and analysis of general ledger and tax data
  • Review community expenditures to verify sales and use tax compliance
  • Complete special projects as assigned

Fixed Assets:

  • Verify and process community capital funding requests
  • Monitor and track community capital expenditure budgets
  • Identify, process, and record all invoices for capital purchases
  • Review purchases to ensure they meet company capitalization requirements
  • Assists in the monthly fixed assets close process

Accounts Receivable Billing Intern:

  • Assist in validating that Residency Agreements have been uploaded to ARM system and that billing dates and amounts are correct
  • Record credit card payments on resident accounts to the G/L
  • Record deposits for Governmental remits
  • Validate statement proofs to PDF files for monthly resident statements
  • Research returned residents statements
  • Complete special projects as assigned 

Accounts Receivable Payment Intern:

  • Daily Call Log Compilation and Summary
  • JPMC Reporting - Returns / Chargebacks, Declines, Refunds
  • Vendor approvals (Non-Rush and Non-Refunds)
  • Daily check for DSS/GAFC Payments
  • Daily delegation/deletion of Webpay Voicemails
  • Daily provide the Trasury Dept with the miscellaneous receipts
  • Returned Statement research, emails and mailing of international statements
  • Log and mail to communities returned payments from lockbox
  • Applying and researching payments of 111/444 account
  • Act as back up for credit card processing
  • Complete special projects as assigned

Financial Reporting Intern:

  • Assist in completing the monthly and annual financial reporting package
  • Assist in completing the monthly compliance reporting
  • Work closely with senior accountants and managers on the annual audit
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

Treasury Intern:

  • Responsible for opening and sorting daily mail runs
  • Manage daily deposits into various bank accounts
  • Assist with Replacement Reserves reimbursement request
  • Load journal entries into PeopleSoft (GL software) for a variety of transactions
  • Responsible for daily and monthly filing of Treasury documents
  • Copy, Fax, Scan, Shred various Treasury documents
  • Complete and Upload Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • Complete special projects as assigned

Accounts Payable Intern:

  • Review invoices for expense categorization
  • Manage AP inbox for repair and maintenance invoices
  • Assist with Procurement Card setup and distribution
  • Assist with Procurement Card audit
  • Assist with Procurement Card vendor management
  • Complete special projects as assigned

 

 

Qualifications

Program Requirements

  • Maintain 3.0 cumulative GPA (4.0 scale).
  • Hours: Minimum of 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters and 30 hours per week during the summer and school breaks.
  • Have completed Introductory Principles of Accounting.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word.
